Where is an ideal place to throw a 40th birthday party?

Finding the right venue for your 40th birthday party can be a daunting task. A marquee is the perfect backdrop for creating a party venue that’s guaranteed to wow your guests. We’ve worked in some great places. We’ve reviewed two below to give you a flavour of what you can achieve, but ultimately, if at all possible, a party marquee at home will be the best for celebrating with your friends, in the place that is most personal to you. It provides the most intimate atmosphere, without restrictions.

Eridge Park is an idyllic, historic setting for a party. Popular for wedding receptions, this venue is also perfect for private parties. There are 5 licensed outdoor event areas set in breathtaking grounds. Our marquees look fabulous here. It’s even possible for guests to camp in the ancient woodlands. Kenwood House, on the edge of Hampstead Heath, is a perfect tranquil oasis in London and a real hidden gem for hosting something a little bit different in the big smoke. Kenwood House now has a new marquee site set in its pretty flower garden. It’s a stunning place to throw a refined do.

What should be on a 40th birthday party to-do list?

With so much to think about, it’s always a good idea to have a definitive to-do list when planning a party. At Arabian Tents, we are experts at thinking of just about everything when it comes to parties. Here’s our list of top things you’ll need to do:

• Decide on your budget and the number of guests
• Create a spreadsheet for keeping track of costs, and schedules as well as invitees
• Organise some helpers to keep you on track
• Set the date
• Research and book the venue
• Choose your themed marquee
• Book entertainment and music. If needed, ask for our contacts in this field.
• Pick your caterer. Again, plenty of recommendations possible here if needed.  And for a feel-good factor, why not lay on vegan or vegetarian food to demonstrate your consciousness and care.
• Organise the bar (either through sourcing your own alcohol and getting advice from us regarding bar staff, or by hiring a bar company to do it all for you)
• Organise portable toilets if you need them (roughly every 60 people need access to one toilet although you may not want to open your house in which case a trailer unit can be hired)

What are suitable themes and colour schemes for a 40th?

If you’ve decided on a theme, make that clear in your invitation. Invite guests to join in the party spirit and dress up in the appropriate theme. Dressing up can really bring some fun to the party, but it’s not for everyone, so don’t make it a prerequisite. Though be clear about your expectations. Is it casual dress, formal or all-out glamour?

What suggestions should I make on a 40th gift list?

More and more people are taking the bold step of making a gift list for big birthdays. Once confined to weddings, a gift list for a birthday can feel like a bold and presumptuous request.
