How to host a Midsummer Night’s Dream Party

Let the Arabian Tent Company create the perfect Midsummer Night's Dream party full of greenery and lights to perfect the ethereal feel of a forest.

How to create the perfect Midsummer Night’s Dream Party

Hosting a Midsummer Night's Dream party is simple: all you need is a beginning, a muddle and an end.

How to stand out in the whirlwind of summer events? Create the perfect dream-themed party and encourage your guests to get creative. Bring that starlit vision to life.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is the perfect summer party theme. Balmy evenings cast a magic spell of their own. Create a whimsical, fairy-tale atmosphere, with a beautiful, bucolic background using greenery for a magical, mood-inducing ambience. Your guests will be transported. The famous Shakespeare play tells a tale of four young Athenian lovers and a group of six amateur actors who are controlled and manipulated by the fairies who inhabit the forest – how fantastic is that?

The title itself suggests ideas of fantasy and imagination and is where the characters experience events that seem to be more dream than reality – an ideal feeling to create at a party. Lead your audience to doubt what is reality and what is illusion. You can enter your own ‘magical’ world and indulge in the beauty of nature and the mid-summer night sky.

But it’s not just about fairies and other worlds – it’s about mischief and this is where you can have real fun from the start. Fairies, lovers, confusion. Why not inhabit a character, be it Titania Queen of The Fairies or Puck the unlikely hero of the piece?

There are plenty to choose from: Oberon, Lysander, Demetrius, Hermia, Helena, Egeus, Theseus, Hippolyta, Bottom, Quince, Flute, Starveling, Snout, Snug, Philostrate, then Peaseblossom, Cobweb, Mote, and Mustardseed. Allocating a character to your guests beforehand will encourage them to get on board with the theme.

This magical theme is ideal for birthdays and other joyful celebrations, so encourage your guests to embrace the dream and follow our guide to creating the ultimate Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Create The Magic

Lighting and ambience is key to creating the magical, dreamy vibe required. No harsh lighting, keep it soft and low – augmented with fairy lights of course. Beautiful mirrored fabrics and drapes will twinkle by night and reflect the light. Lights suspended using fishing wire will look like flickering fairies flying through the forest.

The Food

The cuisine should complement the vibe. Light and elegant, a buffet or canapes. Use foraged ingredients, fresh fruit, fairy cakes and dainty treats. Food fit for fairies…

A Secret Den

Why not create a hidden nook for your guests to discover… A magical realm with flickering lights and maybe a character waiting to read them some quotes from the bard.

A party like A Midsummer Night's Dream party is something that people will never forget, and we will show you how to create a truly magical event. Let us take you on the journey where fairies and fantasies come alive.

Go, Philostrate,

Stir up the Athenian youth to merriments;

Awake the pert and nimble spirit of mirth;

Turn melancholy forth to funerals;

The pale companion is not for our pomp.

Katherine is the founder of Arabian Tents and her day is a whirlwind of meeting clients, writing emails (lots of them!), brainstorming décor ideas and snatching moments to feel very lucky she loves what she does.

When throwing a party it’s always colourful, inviting, warm and relaxing – she loves the Purple Palace interior as it apparently looks good against everyone and she makes sure there is always a ‘surprise’ for guests, whether it be a secret room to discover, an alternative performance or after-dinner liqueur treats. She believes that people parties are important and moments at them are remembered for the rest of people’s lives, so it’s important to break the ice as fast as possible and get on with having fun! The next project she’s working on is a new structure design that should be manufactured and ready to be unveiled to the world next year!
